Frequently asked questions
Are flights to Cuba cancelled?
Not all of them. As of May 2026, 8 airlines still operate scheduled service. But 11 carriers have suspended Cuba routes since 2024, including all major Canadian airlines, Air France, Iberia, Turkish Airlines, and several Russian operators.
Why have so many airlines stopped flying?
A combination of low demand, currency-repatriation issues, and limited Jet-A1 fuel availability at Cuban airports (NOTAM A0356/26). The fuel issue makes turn-around uncertain and forces tankering, which damages route economics.
Can U.S. citizens fly directly to Cuba?
Yes. Direct U.S.–Cuba flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Houston and New York continue to operate — but every U.S. traveler must qualify under one of OFAC's 12 authorized categories.
